The Oldcopper Website

A 'Site Search' page has now been added to help navigation.  Two of the 'Marks' pages have been deleted to make access quicker.  Helpful comments welcome.  The site is now hosted with Intellitech I.T. Solutions Ltd. (UK)

After a lifetime of working with industrial copper and copper alloys, Vin Callcut is writing a useful book on an entirely different subject - domestic copper and brass!  It aims to cover items made mostly during the period 1851-1951, after that covered by most of the books on   antiques that mostly range up to about 1850.

This website shows some of the work done so far  and asks for helpful comments.

'Collecting Domestic Copper and Brass'

The book is being written to cover collectible copper and brass  that is available now within a moderate budget.

The periods covered range from 1,000 years BC to current production including 'originals' and 'reproductions'.  Most will range in the years 1851- 1951.  Almost every  type of product that can be found within the home is covered.  These range from the utilitarian cookware to the much more decorative items.  Many things that are now collectible will be included.

The text will be extensive and cover the history of copper and brass and the ways in which the metals can be cast, wrought and finished.  Prominent makers will be highlighted.  It picks up where the standard books on antiques, that were written some years ago, left off, c1850. There will be over a thousand products illustrated and described.  Many of these are the property of the author but other illustrations have been generously given by enthusiasts whose help will be acknowledged in the captions.

A full list of useful references will be attached together with a glossary of common terms and list of makers' marks.  Sections that seem most useful at present can be selected above and include References, Glossary, Makers' Marks and unidentified objects for which comments are required.

The author is based in England and has collected many items from America and other countries so that the appeal of the information will be world-wide.  Because of the long delays involved in publishing a hard copy book, it is likely that the material will be published first as an e-book on CD-ROM or DVD.
